At 18moons, we are always looking for ways to inspire learning through play. That’s what set us on a journey to explore why music is so attractive to children and why is it beneficial to early childhood development. Here’s what we found out. Music is considered a language and children are naturally oriented toward learning language. Experts agree that developmentally appropriate music activities involve the whole child and can activate a child’s desire for language, a body’s urge to move and the brain’s attention to patters. It’s also appealing to kids because it evokes movement and children delight in and require movement for their development and growth.
When kids engage with music, their ears lead in initiating communication, the voice responds to sounds, and eye-hand coordination are developed through playing musical instruments Music is also considered to be a creative experience which evokes expression of feelings. Because children do not always have the words to express themselves, it’s a great way for kids to express themselves, and share and release emotions. Finally, music transmits culture and is an avenue by which beloved songs, rhymes, and dances can be passed down from one generation to another as well as provide a bridge to understanding various cultures. Check out our playlists for kids on Planet Kids and stayed tuned as we introduce a variety of ways for kids to enjoy and experience music in Planet Kids!
